Alienation is when a person or group feels disconnected or isolated from their surroundings, such as their workplace, community, or even their family. This can happen because of outside reasons, like a bad work environment or difficult life situations. It can also occur due to personal feelings of insecurity, doubt, or failure. For example, someone might feel alienated at work if they don’t get along with their coworkers or if they find the tasks they are doing meaningless. In families, alienation might arise when members feel misunderstood or disconnected from one another. The feeling of not belonging can lead to frustration, loneliness, and a lack of motivation. This concept is often used in sociology to describe how people can become emotionally or mentally detached from important parts of their lives due to either their personal struggles or external pressures.
