What is a cult?

A cult is a type of religious group that focuses on a specific person, who might be alive or have died. Unlike larger religious groups, cults don’t have a lot of formal structure. Instead, they are more about personal experiences and feelings connected to this central person. Members of a cult often look for strong, personal experiences or comfort. Cults usually have fewer rules and less organization compared to big, established religions. They often have a small group of devoted followers who are very focused on the teachings of the central figure. Over time, some cults can become more organized or fit into larger religious systems, but they are typically different from mainstream religions.
